| The three graphics below
show the power of visualization using Visual OMP. At the
left, the bacterial rRNA is shown under 1M Na conditions
at 45ºC. By lowering the sodium concentration to 0.1
M (center), the structure forms less secondary structure,
making more of the sequence accessible to probes and primers.
Finally, by lowering the sodium and raising the temperature
to 60ºC, the structure is further degraded, forming
large loops which can serve as excellent targets for probe
oligos. No other software simulates the effect of salt and
temperature for RNA folding.
